Stephen Montague,Composer, was born in New York. He studied piano, conducting and composition at Florida State University and received a doctorate in composition from Ohio State University. He came to Europe first as a Fulbright Scholar in Warsaw, Poland, in 1972, then settling in London where he has worked as a freelance composer, pianist, and conductor since 1974. His creative work covers a large spectrum of the musical gamut from orchestral, choral, and chamber works to dance, electronic, and multi-media events enlisting sometimes hundreds of performers. Recent commissions include three BBC Proms, London Symphony Orchestra, BBC Symphony Chorus, and the Southbank and Barbican Centres for their 2015 Berlin Philharmonic Residency. His work with dance goes back to early associations with Richard Alston, Robert Cohan, Lucinda Childs, Merce Cunningham, and Jennifer Jackson with the Sadler’s Wells Royal Ballet in 1985.
