News Story

We are deeply saddened to learn of the death of our Patron, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, who has died today aged 96.

Her Majesty lived a life of unfailing and inspiring service to her country, and to people not only in the United Kingdom, but across the world. For over 70 years she has set the standard for public service, for steadfastness, and for strong moral and spiritual principles. Everyone at Birmingham Royal Ballet greatly mourns her passing.

Her Majesty has been the Patron of all three Royal Ballet companies since 1956 and we are immensely grateful for the support she has always shown for British ballet. At Birmingham Royal Ballet we remember particularly fondly performing for Her Majesty during visits to Birmingham in 1999 for the Royal Variety Show at Birmingham Hippodrome and at Symphony Hall in 2002 as part of that year’s Golden Jubilee celebrations.

We send our deepest sympathies to our President, His Majesty The King, our Vice-President, The Lady Sarah Chatto, and the whole Royal Family at this time.

Sir David Normington GCB

Chair, Birmingham Royal Ballet
