We were deeply saddened to hear of the death earlier this week of Geoff Sweeney, BRB’s Director of Development from 2006 to 2017.
Geoff made a lasting contribution to the Company, strengthening our fundraising and building a loyal community of supporters across over a decade working as part of the BRB team. He led the £15 million Campaign for the Future, supporting new work and artist development, as well as life-changing education projects.
His tenure coincided with an extraordinarily creative period under Sir David Bintley, during which BRB audiences saw new works such as E=mc² and Cinderella enter the repertoire.
Paul James, Chief Executive at Birmingham Royal Ballet, said: ‘Geoff’s contribution to BRB was about so much more than the money he raised. He understood that the best fundraising comes from bringing people closer to the Company, to the dancers and to the work they see on stage.
‘He built relationships with enormous care and brought many people into the BRB family, many of whom remain among our supporters today and will, I know, share our sadness at this news.’
We remember Geoff with enormous gratitude and affection, and our thoughts are with his family and friends.
