Hans Vercauteren

Hans, a composer, conductor and orchestrator, makes his Birmingham Royal Ballet debut with his arrangement for Don Quixote

He studied composition with Wim Henderickx and attained his master’s degree magna cum laude at the Royal Conservatory of Antwerp and completed an Artist Diploma in composition at London’s Royal College of Music. He was an RCM Award Holder supported by a Musicians’ Company Lambert Studentship. He made his debut as a composer in 2012 with his Opus one, Ich glaub nicht, an orchestral song commissioned by the Chamber Orchestra of Belgium (now Casco Phil).  This marked the start of an on-going collaboration with the orchestra, both as a composer and conductor. His primary focus is writing music for theatre and drama; together with his partner Lente Verelst, he founded the production company Story Tree, specialising in new music theatre shows. As an orchestrator, Hans concentrates on opera and ballet, and commissions have included The Royal Swedish Ballet, Opera/Ballet Flanders and The Royal Ballet.
