Mathias Dingman

Principal

Introduced by David Bintley
Mathias Dingman was born in South Carolina, USA, and trained at the Kirov Academy of Ballet, Washington DC. Possessing a formidable technique, he won the gold medal at the Varna International Ballet Competition in 2006 and joined Birmingham Royal Ballet in the same year. Mathias’s versatility and winning stage persona have seen him progress through the Company rapidly: First Artist in 2010 and Soloist, then First Soloist, in consecutive years. Although his promotion to Principal only came this year, Mathias’s repertory already includes the roles of the Prince in The Sleeping Beauty, The Nutcracker and Cinderella, and along with the title roles in Aladdin and The Prince of the Pagodas, Mercutio in Romeo and Juliet, Puck in The Dream and Alain in La Fille mal gardée, amongst many others, you begin to get a sense of just how versatile he is! Last season Mathias pulled off the impressive feat of dancing the Prince in The Nutcracker with both Birmingham Royal Ballet and, as a guest artist, with English National Ballet. This season will see the addition of Prince Siegfried in Swan Lake to his already impressive CV.
