Birmingham Royal Ballet and the Royal Birmingham Society of Artists (RBSA) have come together for a dynamic collaborative exhibition celebrating the movement, strength and beauty of ballet.

The exhibition celebrates an ongoing relationship between the two organisations.
RBSA Associate and Principal Dancer Lachlan Monaghan's exquisite photography features in the exhibition, alongside paintings by First Artist Gabriel Anderson, BRB2 Artist Ellyne Knol and works by RBSA Members and Associates. Over the last couple of years, the RBSA artists have spent time in rehearsals observing the dancers, sketching and photographing moments of motion as they happened. These studies have been developed into finished artworks, shown alongside original sketches and photographs to reveal the creative process.
Also featured in the exhibition are works by renowned stage designer John Macfarlane – from productions such as The Nutcracker and Cinderella – and a selection of classical costumes and rarely seen items from the Company’s collection.
Artist Curtis Holder, winner of the 2020 Sky Arts Portrait Artist of the Year, has also provided some of his drawings for his winning portrait of Carlos Acosta.
Together, the works offer a unique insight into ballet in motion and the collaboration between artists and dancers.
The exhibition runs until 21 February 2026. Opening hours are Tuesday – Saturday, 10.30am – 5pm. Click here to find out more.
