Our Wigs Department looks after all the wigs for our productions. Here are a few fascinating facts about the wigs for Don Quixote...

Don Quixote is one of the only ballets where the male dancers are allowed to have facial hair and tattoos on show.

There are 14 wigs and 52 beards and moustaches in the ballet.

The character Gamache wears a blue wig made from hair from a yak.

Dancers wear stocking caps to protect their hair and the wigs. The wig is placed over the stocking cap, pinned to the head with hair grips and then the front lace is glued to the forehead.

96 different hair products – including gels and aerosols – are laid out for the dancers to use before each show.

Between each wear, wigs are cleaned using acetone. After the run, wigs are washed, set in hair rollers and put to dry in BRB's wig oven.

All the wigs are made with real human hair, not synthetic materials.
