Created for the National Ballet of Japan in 2008 and re-created in Birmingham in 2012, Aladdin is aimed at a family audience. The ballet is a large and spectacular production, designed for touring, and complete with a host of technical tricks, including a flying carpet. David Bintley looks back to the original tale, taking Persian and Far-Eastern influences, to create a fast-paced and modern balletic version of this well-known story.
