In honour of Sir Peter Wright and the upcoming performance dedicated to him, Sir Peter Wright Centenary, we're looking back to 1990, when the then Sadler's Wells Royal Ballet made the landmark move from London to Birmingham and became Birmingham Royal Ballet.
In this video, Sir Peter reflects on the decision to relocate the Company, why he believed Birmingham was the right home for it, and how he created The Nutcracker as a gift of thanks to the city that welcomed us.
Thank you, Sir Peter, for your vision and leadership. We're proud to be based in the heart of Birmingham, inspiring audiences, nurturing future generations of dancers, and enriching the cultural life of the city we call home!
Don’t miss our Sir Peter Wright Centenary on 18 June at Birmingham Hippodrome, featuring Carlos Acosta performing the role of Death in The Green Table.
